Terms of Service
Effective April 26, 2026
These terms cover your use of Heads Down — the Mac app and the services at headsdownmode.com. By installing the app or creating an account you're agreeing to them. They're plain-English on purpose; we don't want to hide anything in legalese.
What you get
For $30 a month, billed by Stripe, you get a license to run the Heads Down macOS app, plus the server-side services that back it (verdict checks, day-lock recording, refund issuance, billing dashboard).
The refund
Each calendar day in your billing cycle "locks" once you complete at least one focused session of 25+ minutes at 70%+ on task. If every day in the cycle locks, the entire $30 for that cycle is refunded automatically when the next cycle is charged. Partial refunds follow the back-loaded curve published in our shared specification — the last week of the cycle is worth more than the first. One missed day per cycle is automatically forgiven (the cheat day).
Refunds are issued to the original card on file, normally within a few hours of the renewal charge. If a refund fails for transient reasons (card expired, network) we retry at +3 days and +7 days. After that, contact us.
Cancellation
Cancel anytime from the Stripe portal (linked from Settings → Account → Manage subscription, or from the billing dashboard at headsdownmode.com/billing). You keep access until the end of the current billing cycle — we don't pro-rate. Refunds you've already earned for a closed cycle are still issued.
What we don't promise
- That the verdict pipeline is correct 100% of the time. We aim for >90% accuracy with <5% false-positives, but no AI classifier is perfect — if it makes a bad call, click "Allow this site" and move on.
- That every browser is supported. Firefox in particular has no AppleScript tab access; we don't support it. Safari, Chrome, Brave, and Edge are the supported list at launch.
- That refunds will arrive instantly. Stripe usually settles in minutes; banks can take days.
- Uptime. We try, but we're not a hospital.
What you don't do
- Reverse engineer, redistribute, or share access to the app. One license per person.
- Try to game the refund mechanic. We can detect synthetic input patterns and will reject day-locks we believe were not earned in good faith.
- Use the service to do anything illegal or to harass other people.
Liability
We're a small operation. Our maximum liability to you for any claim is the amount you've paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We're not liable for indirect or consequential damages — lost productivity, data loss, etc.
Termination
We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms (gaming the refund, harassing other people, etc.). We'll try to tell you why first.
Changes
If we update these terms in a way that meaningfully reduces your rights, we'll email everyone with an account at least 30 days in advance.
